I don't buy the idea of "deserving" as you express it here. I know who I am and what I've felt and done, and I'm glad I've got better than I deserve.
I could agree more with the idea that "I [Need or Want or Crave or Demand or Expect] Better Than Second Place."
I think we all crave to be loved firstly, fully, completely. I'm not sure that we all always end up in that situation. Love, however you define that, can vary in intensity and commitment over time.
