1962. Poem without Personal Pronouns

Who?

A poet
A dancer
A lover
A wife

A cat's
Mother

1961. Married Bliss

Singing
A merry tune
The best way
To start
A Friday
Evening
At home
With my husband
Each of us
With a melody
In our heart

Happily Married in San Francisco

1960. Deep Freeze

My computer
Seized
Like a dead thing
Not moving
Or breathing
No systems
Working

Working in Startups, San Francisco

1959. Fly

Woman, bird
Soaring
Heart
Beating
Leaping
Diving
Singing
Why
Life, being
Is thrilling

1958. On Early Retirement

People dreaming
Of early retirement
Don't know why
They shouldn't
Want it
That's a whole
Lot of nothing
You've got
To fill
With something

This poem is a paraphrase of wisdom shared by my husband recently and my Mom regularly, both of whom think working keeps you young.

1957. Revived

I can feel
A new life
Breathing
Inside me
Not yet
A child's
But mine
My husband
Has revived me
My mind
Was dormant
For a while

Happily Married in San Francisco

The meaning of this poem is that my husband's love re-started me as a poet - a happily married poet. To all those, who may be nosy, I'm not pregnant. What I've written above is a metaphor.

1956. Holding Me Tight

I can tell by
How tightly
He holds me
That he needs
Me
As much
As I need him

Happily Married in San Francisco

1955. One Tear Transcendant

I had one tear
Left for my
Husband
After all the oceans
My soul bled
For other men
I feared
He'd never find
Me
Now he
And I
Are One

Happily Married in San Francisco

(Note to readers: this was actually my first poem written since the poems I wrote in December and January - when I first met my husband. The numbers are out of order. See #1934, titled, "Better Than Expensive" for an early introduction to my husband - on one of our first dates.)

1954. Advance Planning Works

On March 30,
2008,
I planned
And created
My husband.
My notes,
Really wishes,
Described him
Exactly.
It's uncanny.
Today,
We both stared
Amazed
To see
The precision
Of my notebook's
Predictions.

Happily Married in San Francisco

1953. Just to Entertain Us

Gliders fly
Fast, low, and high
At Ft. Funston
Beach
And cliffs
Just five
Short minutes
From where
We live
Winds just right
We can see
Them soaring
While we're kissing
Wave-side

Happily Married in San Francisco

1952. A Little More Action

We're walking
With our
Talking
Planning
And Living
Just who
We want
To be

Happily Married in San Francisco

1951. Just Because

Honey,
I'm happy
We're married
And to be
Your wife
And that
You're
My husband.
What other
Reason
Do I need
For big smiles?

Happily Married in San Francisco

1950. Glowing

You say,
I'm glowing.
Is it showing?
I'm happy
To be
A married
Woman.
I'm not yet
Pregnant,
You bitch.

Happily Married in San Francisco

1949. Happy in Marriage

A day off
Bliss
Stretch, roll
And kiss

Happily Married in San Francisco

1948. Strength from Fears

"I'm just a man,"
He thinks,
"Full of wants,
Needs and fears."
That's not what
I see.
From where
I stand
He gives me
The strength
To tame
Our dragons
And fill our
Life's basket
With plenty

Happily Married in San Francisco

1947. The Real Fantastic

Little spat
Followed by
Hugs
And foot rubs
...Love...
A lasting
Promise
That's fantastic

Happily Married in San Francisco

1946. New Days

Bedroom wonder
Getting better
Each day
After the other
There'll never be
Another
Skills
Learned together
Are the best ever

Happily Married in San Francisco

1945. Ascent to Heaven

A lot of men
Broke my heart
But one man,
For his part,
Is building me up
...He's my husband

Happily Married in San Francisco

1944. Earthly Divine

My guy
He's not perfect
And hasn't been
For a while
But he's mine
And that's divine

Happily Married in San Francisco

1943. Zoom

Met and married
In under
Six months
Who would have
Thunk it?
