LinkedIn prompts me to say
You are a person I trust
And I'd like you to join
My professional network
Actually, I want to leverage
Your friends, acquaintances, and colleagues
For a new job, promotion, or new hires
But LinkedIn doesn't say that
An invitation can be welcome -
From someone you truly like and respect
Otherwise, it's uncomfortable
From an unknown person,
Who may damage your reputation
You fear to offend them
And to miss opportunity
But a self-protection instinct takes hold
